Depression and Anxiety

Depression-and-Anxiety-in-Orland-Park

Everyone has periods of sadness or stress. This is the unfortunate reality of life. However, people who experience these issues persistently or frequently may suffer from depression or anxiety. If you believe you're currently suffering from one or both of these types of disorders, or if you’re otherwise struggling with your mood, the therapists at Neil D. Shere and Associates, serving Illinois from our Orland Park office, can help.

Depression and Anxiety Defined

These two conditions have some overlapping symptoms and can co-occur, but are conceived of somewhat differently.

Depression

Major depressive disorder, the most common form of depression, is ongoing sadness or lack of motivation that may make you feel uninterested in the hobbies and people you once enjoyed. You could feel worthless, empty, or like everything is hopeless. You might lack energy, struggle to concentrate, or have memory problems.

Sometimes, depression leads to unexplained pain or digestive issues. Your appetite may change; either you'll eat too much or not enough.

Anxiety

Anxiety occurs when you have fear or worry that's either persistent or recurring. You may have difficulty concentrating, struggle to fall asleep, or feel restless. Anxiety can also make you feel irritable or have unexplained aches and pains.

Getting Treatment

If you're suffering from any of the symptoms mentioned above, the therapists at Neil D. Shere and Associate encourage you to reach out for assistance. Treatment is available in person at our Orland Park office or online for Illinois residents and is non-judgmental, empathetic, and customized to your needs and goals.

What to Expect

Initially, your therapist will want to know how often you're experiencing these problems. This will allow us to tailor a plan to ease your symptoms and help you reduce the pull depression and anxiety have on your behavior.

You two may work on identifying unhelpful assumptions and framings and replacing them with more positive thought patterns.

You may also develop coping strategies, such as what to do when you're feeling the beginning of an anxiety attack or depressive episode, and you may discuss life changes you can make to feel better overall. These can include developing healthier habits, seeking resolutions to personal conflicts, and gaining clarity about your needs and values.
